header-supplies.jpg

When it comes to running any type of business the last thing the owner of a shop wants to worry about is their back-end inventory supplies. Especially when they get the call from a manager, “Hey we’re out of labels, toner” “…or ribbon.” This is usually when the shop owner picks the quick fix, whether it be making a run to their local office supplies store or hopping on the Internet and paying for expedited shipping. Yes, this resolves the issue for a couple of months until the shop runs low again.

Kim Mendoza , Sun City Coin and Pawn, California

Ubiquity – Establishing a Dominant Presence

header-TakeCare.jpg

As business owners and executives tasked to grow a business, we should all strive for ubiquity in our business. When your clients need something they should automatically point right at your business as the go to place for them to address their needs. Over the years we have all used phrases like “Xerox this document”, “I need a Kleenex“, “I need to Google this”,  and “I am looking to purchase a Polo shirt”. These words are blanket terms in the way they are used but the truth of the matter is they are all brands. World class brands for that matter. These companies become synonymous in their core domains and do things so well they create ubiquity in the market place. Customers may not buy a Polo brand shirt but they say they need a “polo” shirt, which is a sleeved and collared shirt.

Jewelers Being Bad

The Right Kind of Wrong

We live in an attention economy. If you can grab people’s attention, you can sell them things.

Want a trick to grab people’s attention? Of course you do! Ready?
The trick is to do what is least expected. That is it. If people expect something right side up, put it upside down. If people expect to see a beautiful woman wearing jewelry, put a necklace on a dorky guy, or better yet on a poodle. Do the unexpected and you will surprise, delight, and sell.

TURN YOUR ADS UPSIDE DOWN
On Black Friday the game Cards Against Humanity raised all their prices! Everyone was expecting lower prices, so instead they raised them for
one day! They got much more attention, not to mention sales, by doing the unexpected.

ZIG WHEN THEY TELL YOU TO ZAG.
Would you have looked at the pretty hand if there was not an ugly one next to it?

DO THE OPPOSITE
Why is this picture of the guys one of my favorites? Because you expect to see girls! Give the unexpected and get noticed, talked about and shopped with.

DOWN-SIDE UP
This ad is fantastic for the same reason. You expect to see two kids on the ground. By doing the unexpected you get people’s attention.
